The Pursuit of Happiness Through Street Photography
As a street photographer, I’ve always believed that photography is more than capturing a moment—it's about capturing a feeling, a connection, a slice of happiness. Recently, I’ve been reading The Almanack of Naval Ravikant: A Guide to Wealth and Happiness. While it’s not a photography book, it resonates deeply. Happiness, after all, is the underlying pursuit for many of us, photographers included.
One chapter caught my attention—where Naval’s formula for earning wealth is outlined. It made me reflect on my own “formula” for street photography, which has guided my journey as an artist and professional:
Do the Sale – Believe in your value and make the connections to share and deliver your work.
Do the Work – Put in the effort to capture moments that matter.
Deliver the Work – Share your vision, whether through prints, exhibitions, or digital platforms or to a client.
Show Your Work – Use social media, blogs, or galleries to display your growth.
Learn and Improve – Reflect, adapt, and refine your craft over time.
This process, repeated consistently, brings you closer to mastering your art—and perhaps closer to happiness, too.
On January 11th, 2025, I had the privilege of running a Street Photography Workshop with six talented photographers. The tools ranged from smartphones to professional cameras, but the creativity was universal. After sharing their most liked photographs in a gallery among the participants, one sentiment echoed: “It’s so cool to see how others are being creative.” - Yes, you learn a lot from that.
So, here’s to the photographers who joined me that day. Let’s celebrate their creativity and find inspiration in the photographs that spoke to them the most.
Let the pursuit of happiness guide your lens. Keep creating, keep sharing, and always keep learning.
